Equipped with this SaaS tool, IT leaders are providing their employees at every level with the ability to assess their core competencies based on industry standards. This approach shifts the accountability for professional and career development to the individual and engages and inspires them in the process.

The "Core" Competencies for IT Success

Based on experience working with more than 3,000 IT organizations along with input from CIO's and industry leaders, RGI has identified the core competencies that are critical for success today and in the future. The IT Skill Builder is both an assessment and professional development tool that is based on these core areas which include influence, client orientation, strategic focus, and enabling change among others.

A Comprehensive Resource Guide

With the benefit of their assessment results, IT employees also have access to a dynamic Resource Guide that provides a series of targeted on-the-job activities, suggested experiences, books, articles and training opportunities. These resources are mapped to each core competency and are used in closing skill gaps, career mapping and moving employees to higher levels of effectiveness and success. ​

Self Assessment

As part of the IT Skill Builder process, IT employees complete a self-assessment, rating their proficiency level across the core competencies for IT success. The IT Skill Builder then generates a report identifying key skill gaps and strengths.

Individual Development Plans

Once items from the Resource Guide are selected by the employee, IT Skill Builder will automatically generate an individual development plan that will help them close skill gaps and develop new capabilities. Employees share their plans with their manager and engage in meaningful discussion related to their personal and career development. ​

Reporting and Tracking

In addition to providing each IT employee with an individual report highlighting their strengths and weaknesses, IT Skill Builder provides the IT leadership team with a snapshot of all the assessment results. These organizational insights for each core competency allow senior IT leaders to maximize training investments by sponsoring targeted training and development opportunities.
